    5 Methods of Dance!™
  • Dance Exploration’s Preschool Program follows the 5 Methods of Dance Education developed by the Dance to Learn® Curriculum. The Dance to Learn® Curriculum is a whole-child approach to dance education grounded in research and formulated on state and national standards of dance education. Dance Exploration’s Preschool Dance Program is a journey into the introduction of basic dance movements and principles combined with conceptual, play-based dance class lessons; designed for seamless dance integration into every classroom. Using the ‘Dance to Learn!’ ® Curriculum Methods, we’ve created a program that combines dance techniques with early childhood development. The method behind our core curriculum is guaranteed to keep our young minds stimulated, curious, and amused with their dance education as well as continuously making progress in their learning and development.

    • 'Dance to Discover!'™

The ‘Dance to Discover Method!’™ focuses on Cognitive Development in the stages of early childhood development. Cognition is the process of intellectual development and how a child learns to process their surroundings, solve problems, and think both creatively and analytically. In the Dance Exploration Preschool Program, we focus on a conceptual, play-based approach to learning. Teaching conceptually, we frequently switch the themes and concepts of which we are learning. In changing our themes each month, we can keep our young mind’s actively engaged, interested in class and continuously exploring and expanding their knowledge. Conceptual based lesson plans allows our dancers to focus on ideas or experiences that are familiar to them and expand their knowledge in those areas through dance and movement. Concepts are taught through active play and imaginative activities designed to stimulate the child’s brain pathways. Monthly themes are age and developmentally appropriate and are based on what the child is currently learning in school.

    • Dance to Express™

The Dance to Express™ Method focuses on Emotional Development in the Stages of Child Development. Emotional Development is a child’s ability to experience, express and manage their emotions and feelings. In the Dance to Learn® Curriculum, the Dance to Express™ Method also targets Language Development in our dancers as we are constantly teaching new dance terminology along with the pronunciations and meanings. In the Dance Exploration Preschool Program, the Dance to Express™ Method is established throughout the majority of class, as dance lessons and activities are centered around student involvement. Allowing our dancers to express themselves both artistically and playfully builds trust between child and educator which in turn creates a safe environment for our participants. Dance Educators are trained to aid the students in decision making processes; when faced with dance games where a participant’s imagination and creativity are put to the test, Dance Educators may demonstrate their ideas, but will always reassure and support a child who takes inventive liberty and spin on an idea. This is part of the ‘Yes’ Environment and creating a positive atmosphere that fosters growth and learning potential, allowing students to feel safe and confident in their decisions and ideas.

    • 'Dance to Accept!'™

The ‘Dance to Accept!’™ Method targets Social Development. Social Development is the means in which children interact with others to establish and develop positive and rewarding relationships. Dance Exploration teaches in a positive ‘Yes’ Environment where artistry, imagination and innovations can thrive. The ‘Yes’ Environment cannot survive with negativity or intolerance. Therefore, from day one, children are taught how to work in groups and in teams to strengthen their cooperation while working with others. This teaches children about interpersonal ways of thinking, improving their ability to communicate and relate to others. In the Dance Exploration Preschool Program, emphasis will be placed on partner and small group activities, sharing, patience and waiting turns. Children will develop the ability to overcome disagreements with their classmates and develop contented relationships.

    • Dance to Create™

The Dance to Create™ Method focuses on a child’s Creative Development. Creativity fuels a child’s ability to solve-problems, innovate, and explore new and unfamiliar areas. It is the hallmark of ingenuity, which may lead to successes later in life in the world of art, science, and technology. Children who are encouraged to think creatively exhibit higher self-esteem and motivation. In the Dance Exploration Preschool Program, dancers are allowed the opportunity to move in their own way and at their own pace. This ability to free dance allows the dancers to create, through movement, their idea of that day’s theme through their own dance interpretations. Teachers guide the creative process through a positive and nurturing ‘Yes Environment. It is through this type of creative learning, that children can learn at a very early age how to engage and interact in the world around them.

    • 'Dance to Move!'™

The Dance to Move™ Method targets a child’s Physical Development both in fine and gross motor skills. Fine Motor Development is the child’s ability to move smaller muscles such as fingers and toes, it can also refer to hand-eye coordination. Gross Motor Development involves a child’s ability to move on a larger scale such as dancing or playing sports. In the Dance Exploration Preschool Program, we target both fine and gross motor development. Preschool classes include the playing with props. As dancers grasp and manipulate the props, they are strengthening their fine motor skills. Following props, like scarves, with their eyes they are also working on improving their hand-eye coordination. The Dance Exploration Preschool Program also focuses on gross motor development with an emphasis on the dance elements of space, time and energy. Dancers will study the Element of Space as they learn to dance in self-space vs general space; improving their spatial awareness. The Element of Time will be introduced as dancers listen to music and are asked questions about tempo, is it slow or fast? Dancers will then be asked to dance and adjust movement to the different tempos. Dancers will study the Element of Energy as part of their conceptual learning as they may be challenged to dance and move as different emotions, textures, colors, animals etc. They will also learn how to adjust movement to make it more forceful, soft, sharp, heavy or light etc. Physical Development in children is important as they will improve strength, balance, coordination, rhythm and flexibility. Movement and dance also promotes a healthy lifestyle and can combat the epidemic of childhood obesity.
