    Class Description
  • Broadway Exploration’s Broadway Dance class explores the lights, sounds and dancing as seen on the streets of Broadway in New York! If you Gotta Sing or Gotta Dance, this class is for you! Broadway Exploration creates a unique educational and exploratory look into the multiple performing arts genres that encompass Musical Theater. Through our ‘Dance to Learn!’® Curriculum and the 5 Methods of Dance™ students will receive a hands on experience through creative exploration and teacher guided activities to learn the choreography of the dance routines as seen in famous Broadway Musicals. Broadway Exploration will use the ‘Dance to Discover!’™ Method, to teach the history of each musical and the famous choreographers that created the magic behind the dancing. Teacher guided games, activities and team or class exercises will change frequently to keep class exciting and ensure children are learning as much as possible. Each class will revolve around a general theme or idea based on the musical theater industry and will result in vocabulary, terminology and technical execution exercises. Dance and movement will be an integral aspect of the Broadway Dance Classes. Following Dance Exploration’s ‘Dance to Move!’™ Method. The class begins with warming up the muscles of the body with simple cardio and stretching exercises, will ensure that all of the student’s muscles are ready for class. Students then move on to Developing Skills. During this part of class, moves that are taught during the choreographed dances are broken down and taught for mastery. After practicing and perfecting the technique behind the movements, the students begin work on the choreography. During this portion of class, students follow the Educator in combing the steps learned during Developing Skills and combine them into a large dance routine. Dancers get to create an 8-16 phrase of choreography to incorporate into each dance. This is included as part of the ‘Dance to Create!’™ Method. Dancers work in small groups with their peers to further develop their ability to work in a team. Teams or groups will often be asked to work together to create a move or phrase of choreography. This requires patience, listening, constructive feedback, and problem solving. These qualities are all integral parts to peer relations and social development and are included as Dance Exploration’s ‘Dance to Accept!’™ Method. Teachers follow a “Yes!” Environment where the children feel comfortable and safe working with both their instructor and their peers. Educators also encourage children to make the right choices and nurture their self expression. As part of the ‘Dance to Express!’™ Method. Broadway Dance Classes end with a special performance for the school, family and friends.

  • What will my Child Learn?

    Gross and Fine Motor Development
    • Students will learn basic stage directions including upstage, downstage, stage right and stage left and how to move throughout the space.

    • Students will learn basic dance choreography and the elements of dance
    • Students will learn basic dance technique and terminology
    • Students will learn how to hold and manipulate props or set pieces to enhance the telling of the story
    Cognitive Development
    • Students will learn about the history of the musical they are performing including famous influencers, writers, directors and choreographers
    • Students will be able to explain and understand the musical’s history and biography for the story they are studying.
    • Students will understand the different roles required to choreograph a musical and the different viewpoints of each role.
    • Students will learn the different elements of dance and choreography and the importance of each element.
    Social and Emotional Development
    • Children will learn to interact with other children as they work together to choreograph a short 8-16 piece of choreography.
    • Students learn how to wait patiently, take turns and work cooperatively in a group
    • Students will be able to express themselves and ideas through different character choices.
    • Students will learn how to listen, take direction and follow instructions from a teacher or director.
    Language Skills
    • Children will learn new dance terminology, the meaning of the terminology and how to associate that terminology with the correct movement
    • Students will learn how to express their needs, desires and problems to their dance teacher
    • Each week students will learn about an aspect of the musical theatre dance piece they are learning whether it be the choreographer, famous influencers or the history of the work.
