• Cheerleading

    Class Description
  • Dance Exploration’s Cheerleading program is a progressive exploration of  chanting, stunting, dance and movement as seen on the side lines of major sports teams. Our Cheerleading program has been designed around childhood development and the stages of each student’s schooling. Our unique ‘Dance to Learn!’®  Curriculum, includes 6 Methods of Dance™  all focused on teaching our students dance principles as a tool to help them succeed in other areas of learning. The most important concept in our cheerleading class will be working as a team! Dancers will learn how to move in unison and create fun formations and pictures as a unit. Students will be taught the importance of working together towards a common goal and how to overcome differences. This ability to accept the unique talents of each individual dancer is part of the ‘Dance to Accept!’™ method. Students will learn to work together to produce group cheers, chants and routines that demonstrate the class dynamics. This creative process relates directly to the ‘Dance to Create!’™ Method. Cheers/Poms will teach the fundamentals of cheerleading, combined with dancing with pom poms to create fun visual shapes for the audience. Class begins with stretches and warm ups including the basic arm positions of cheerleading and easy cheers and chants as heard on the sidelines. Center work and across the floor activities are performed individually and in groups. Age and skill appropriate combinations will also be taught in this class. All assisted lifts and stunts will be taught and only performed under the supervision of the Dance Exploration, LLC Dance Educator. Children will not be taught these skills until mastery of basic strength exercises have been accomplished to prevent serious injury. These dance, cheer and simple gymnastics skills are taught as part of the ‘Dance to Move!’™  method. Dance Exploration believes in the importance of teaching dance terminology in each class. Dance and cheer have it’s own language and it’s important that students understand the language to perform the moves well. Each week, Dance Exploration will pick a new dance or cheer term to study as part of the class theme. This is designed to not only keep students learning new dance and concepts, but also to keep class new and exciting every single time! Utilizing themes is a part of the ‘Dance to Discover!’™  method to ensure new concepts are explored each week. Children will be given the opportunity to create their own chants and cheer routines as part of the ‘Dance to Express!’™  method. Cheerleading classes also include the Family Engagement Program to keep parents informed about what their children are learning in class! The program also provides families with fun at-home activities to continue the exploration and learning process outside of the classroom.

  • Our Teaching Method

    6 Methods of Dance™
    • 'Dance to Learn!'®

Our Preschool Program includes activities that advance each individual child’s development. Activities are focused on cognitive thinking, problem solving, social and speech development, peer relations, and motor skills.

    • 'Dance to Discover!'™

In our preschool program, we introduce a new theme each week to prevent stagnation. Themes are age and development appropriate. Children will learn new concepts to stimulate their cognitive development as well as their critical thinking and problem solving skills.

    • 'Dance to Accept!'™

Dance Exploration teaches in a positive ‘Yes’ Environment where artistry, imagination and innovations can thrive. The ‘Yes!’ Environment cannot survive with negativity or intolerance. Therefore, from day one, children are taught how to work in groups and in teams. This teaches children at a young age about peer relations. In the preschool program, emphasis will be placed on partner and small group activities, sharing, patience and waiting turns. Children will develop the ability to overcome disagreements with their classmates and develop contented relationships.

    • 'Dance to Express!'™

Dance Exploration Educators are trained to aid the students in decision making processes. When faced with dance activities where a participant’s imagination and creativity are honed, Dance Educators may demonstrate their ideas, but will always reassure and support a child who takes inventive liberty and spin on an idea. This is part of Dance Exploration’s ‘Yes’ Environment and creating a positive teaching atmosphere that fosters growth and learning potential.

    • 'Dance to Create!'™

Dance Exploration Preschool classes encourage creative development and expression. Classes allow children the opportunity to move in their own way and at their own pace allowing children to create their idea of class themes and concepts through their own dance interpretations. Teachers guide the creative process through a positive and nurturing environment.

    • 'Dance to Move!'™

Dance Exploration Educators teach progressively for mastery and success. Proper technical skill will be achieved before advancing to additional dance moves. Dance Exploration will combine locomotor and non locomotor skills in all classes to assure that the child’s gross motor skills continue to be improved upon. Skills to be measured in the Preschool Program will be balance, coordination, muscle control and muscle memory, fine motor ability, flexibility and strength.
