• Peppy Cheerleading

    Class Description
  • Dance Exploration’s Peppy Cheerleading program is a preschooler’s introduction to basic poms, chants and cheers! Our Cheerleading program has been designed around childhood development  through our unique ‘Dance to Learn!’®  Curriculum which includes 5 Methods of Dance™. Each month we explore a different theme which all of our cheers and chants are based around as part of the ‘Dance to Discover!™’ Method. Themes are fun and playful to keep our classes more exciting. One theme for example could be Walking on Sunshine meaning all of the Cheers and Chants learned will resolve around summer time, sunshine and rainbows! Class will start with the Cheerleaders learning an element or concept that incorporates the monthly theme. For example, we could learn about the concept of relationships and the different ways to dance and move with other members of the team. The most important concept in our Cheerleading class will be working as a team! Dancers will learn how to move in unison and create fun formations and pictures as a unit. Students will be taught the importance of working together towards a common goal and how to overcome differences. This ability to accept the unique talents of each individual dancer is part of the ‘Dance to Accept!’™ method. Classes will begin in our Learning Circle where cheerleaders will explore the daily concept or dance element. Next we will warm up with easy stretches on the floor and slowly move to standing. Once standing we will learn basic Cheerleading arm movements with bright and colorful pom poms. Next students learn dance moves across the floor as part of Developing Skills. Skills are taught through a progressive sequence to ensure mastery. These across the floor activities are performed individually and in groups. Next students learn daily cheers and chants that are common on the sidelines of sports games. Chanting includes the manipulating of Pom Poms while moving and dancing through a choreographed routine that is shouted for the stadium to hear. Students will learn to work together to produce a team cheer based on the mascot that they create This creative process relates directly to the ‘Dance to Create!’™ Method. Students in the Peppy Cheerleading Class will learn the very beginning basics of cheer stunting. Lifts and throws will not be taught in this class, however easy stand poses where each Cheerleader can experience the grips of both the base and flyers for skills later on will be the primary goal in this class. Children will not be taught these skills until mastery of basic strength exercises have been accomplished. These dance, cheer and simple gymnastics skills are taught as part of the ‘Dance to Move!’™  method.  Cheerleading classes also include the Dance Exploration ‘Dance to Learn®!’ at Home with Me Program to keep parents informed about what their children are learning in class! The program also provides families with fun at-home activities to continue the exploration and learning process outside of the classroom.
